Where Are All of Those Retired American Girls?
It may be hard to find those American Girl dolls we have grown up to cherish once they discontinue them. You can buy some of them on Ebay and even on our site here at Classy-Dolls.com but the truth is it becomes much harder to find an American Girl doll when it has been retired.
But you also have to be careful that you do not get a replica or an American Girl doll that is actually a fake. If it is a trusted seller with some decent feedback then you should be ok, but don't just trust someone because they say it is authentic. Look for evidence. Often you will be able to buy clothes or outfits for the dolls that may be generic, so determine if you mind this or not and proceed. You can find some great deals on dolls clothing for 18 in dolls and some of them are handmade and very lovely.
Of course you can always contact the seller to see if an item is the real deal and if they do not get back to you then you are probably just wasting your time. The Pleasant company has come out with some great stuff. In 1997 you would have been able to buy some very nice special edition clothing items for American Girls, but they were supposed to only be available for a few months, but up until 2001 you could still make the purchases. These limited edition outfits were for Samantha, Felicity, Molly, Kirsten, and Addy.
You also, used to be able to buy some doll patterns so you could make your own outfits for the dolls and this gave them an even great appeal. People loved making their own unique outfits that no other doll in town would have. But soon the company stopped making the patters available because people just stopped buying the ones that were all ready made and sitting on the store shelves. Of course, right!
American Girl maps were also a big ticket item in 1996 as well. There was so much detail in these almost life size posters that were almost 3 feet high, and included much of that characters surroundings and places in town they might visit in the books. But by the time 2004 rolled around these American Girl maps were no longer available.
