American Girl Addy

American Girl AddyThe Addy American Girl doll is steeped in historical drama. The setting is 1864, and Addy and her mother both escaped from slavery during this time period. The story of Addy unfolds as she and her mother travel on an epic journey to the North to try to find the rest of the family at last. Throughout this exciting journey, Addy discovers new friends and learns new things along the way. One of the most important lessons she learns is what it means to be free and that she is free to dream. The Addy Doll was released by American Girl in 1993, which was quite a span of time from the initial release of Samantha, Molly, and Kirsten in 1986.  This is a wonderful doll to add to your collection.

Addy Walker was originally a slave and
became a fugitive after escaping from North Carolina. When Addy
Walker escaped, so did her mother. They both fled to Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania. All of this was done during the American Civil War, but
Addy didn't care much about escaping since her master was actually
responsible for ruining her family by splitting them all up
previously. You can imagine such a life and decisions were very
rough, if even feasible.

Addy Walker wanted a new life morethan anything or anyone you could know, but only later on began to realize the challenges she would face while trying to make a new one for herself. It was very rough for Addy as she had to face new trials and constant challenges due to her race, as well as where she came from.

As for Addy Walker's books, her main books were created by Connie Porter and illustrated by a Melodye Rosales, and Bradford Brown. Crazy thing is, it was actually redrawn to its entirety later on by a Dahl Taylor. As as you can see not only does the doll come from a long line of hard work and trials, but so do her accessories. Addy's books are definitely ones to take into account for saving forever as their quality are unimaginable and the history behind them are even more so.

Now, as for statistics, Addy was recorded as only the fifth African American doll to be added to American Dolls collections. She definitely still left her mark though, regardless of that rather low statistical fact. In addition to this, she also was the first doll to have earrings on her. Another wonderful feature about Addy is she had a very unique and custom mold as an attempt to better present her ethnicity. This was another factor as to why she would run so high now a days on the market and such, as she clearly falls under the category of a true rarity.

Lastly, Kids Entertainment Inc. brought Addy back to life in 2007 by putting on small, but often broadcasts shows all throughout the country on a rather small tour. Although the tour was rather short, it definitely brought plenty attention to her, brought her back to life, and also of course raised her value due to this. January through may 2008 was the main dates for these events and will never be forgotten.
